Proposed Elementary School Proximity zone plans unveiled | News, Sports, Jobs

The Lee County School Board received the same presentation during its recent briefing meeting. Approximately a year ago, the school district began working with Davis Demographics to ensure an equitable and diverse enrollment of students, as well as develop stronger schools through community partnerships and community-based school zones. The elementary school proximity zones also will provide a strategic improvement in transportation efficiency by reducing the time students are on the bus, officials said. The district put together a technical working group, headed by Project Manager Courtney Gordon. She said they had close to 50 attendees at the first meeting at Dunbar High School. There were also meetings at Cape Coral High School, Three Oaks Middle School and Varsity Lakes Middle School.

Sip, sip and away! Take a trip to Portuguese wine country, without leaving Southwest Florida

Sip, sip and away! Take a trip to Portuguese wine country, without leaving Southwest Florida Gina Birch, Special to The News-Press © Gina Birch/Special to The News-Press The vineyards at Cartuxa Winery in Portugal are owned by a foundation that supports local education and cultural initiatives. We hoped it would be better by now.  Those who like to travel and dine out prayed and wished things would look different in 2021. Not quite. Many restaurants still operate under reduced capacity. Many consumers are still skittish about dining indoors. And travel to foreign destinations for pleasure is still on hold. Part of the fun of discovering new places includes discovering the local foods and wines. The pandemic may be grounding travel but it’s not grounding imagination. We can still feel like we re getting away, and the growing diversity in Southwest Florida s restaurant scene is making it easier.
