The Lee County School District board gave its nod of approval to move forward with a pre-K through eighth grade academy program for Veterans Park Academy for the Arts last week.
The school board received an update which included a report from a meeting held on March 30 with the community.
Community Event
The March 30 community event was held to gather input on two concepts the board envisioned for the project, an elementary pre-K-5 and middle 6-8 school, or one large pre-K-8 school.
Community Engagement Coordinator Adam Molloy said the event was extremely well attended and engagement with the process was extremely visible.
The Lee County School Board received the same presentation during its recent briefing meeting.
Approximately a year ago, the school district began working with Davis Demographics to ensure an equitable and diverse enrollment of students, as well as develop stronger schools through community partnerships and community-based school zones. The elementary school proximity zones also will provide a strategic improvement in transportation efficiency by reducing the time students are on the bus, officials said.
The district put together a technical working group, headed by Project Manager Courtney Gordon. She said they had close to 50 attendees at the first meeting at Dunbar High School. There were also meetings at Cape Coral High School, Three Oaks Middle School and Varsity Lakes Middle School.
