Flash flood watches still in effect after storm slams region [San Francisco Chronicle] Jan. 28 The storm system that tore through Northern California overnight Tuesday left downed trees, flooded roads and power outages in its wake along with potentially life-threatening landslides in Monterey County. The Bay Area escaped the brunt of the strong winds that accompanied Tuesday’s rains primarily damage from fallen tree limbs and downed power lines. Tens of thousands of Pacific Gas & Electric Co. customers in the Bay Area woke up without power Wednesday morning, the utility reported with the highest proportion in the East Bay and South Bay. By 10 a.m., 15,647 were still without power.

It’s a big change for the 25-year-old franchise, but I am thrilled to be able to share it with you all after scheming about it in the background for a while now. The now-quarterly list of Bay Area restaurant recommendations will adapt to fit the ways we can eat right now, whether that means engaging with restaurants solely through takeout or, hopefully someday soon, eating inside of dining rooms once again. Each new update will highlight dishes and restaurants that best reflect the season, as well as whatever new coronavirus-related restrictions or allowances may come up.

Eco-teens Launch A Green Campaign

In just 3 years of community activism that rivals Sarah Palin s political climb, Teens for Safe Cosmetics (TFSC) from Marin County, California has waged a national campaign to educate and inspire elimination and disuse of chemical toxins and environmental pollutants for healthier living. The passionate crusade recently earned two representatives from TFSC a meeting with Nobel Laureate, Archbishop Desmond Tutu at the Peace Jam Global Call to Action Conference in Los Angeles. Campaign members, Kate Smith and Emily Rose, were among 3,000 youths from around the world assembled to hear wisdom offered by six Nobel Peace Prize winners and to present their project for making of a better world. Kate and Emily returned home motivated and inspired.
