Quint s Top 20: Common Sense, Maturity and Discipline

Monday March 15th, 2021 8:00am We are living with postponements and programs in pause. We witnessed monster goal-scoring runs this week.  We were treated to a more robust slate of Sunday games because of on-campus social distancing and facility availability. I think that’s a longterm positive. Why stack all the games on Saturday? The game grows when teams play on Thursday night, Friday night and Sunday afternoon. Everybody can’t play Saturday at the same time. Maryland, North Carolina and Johns Hopkins picked up marquee wins. Duke dominated. Lehigh is legit. Vermont and Delaware are surging. UMass made its belated debut.

DeSimone, Narewski Spark Dominant Johns Hopkins Effort in 13-6 Win Over Penn State

Inside Lacrosse Photo: Zach Babo) In beating No. 12 Penn State 13-6 at Homewood Field, Johns Hopkins secured its most meaningful win since topping No. 5 Maryland in the Big Ten Semifinals in 2019 (the Blue Jays also beat the Terps in the season finale the weekend prior, when Maryland was 11-2 and ranked No. 2 in the IL Media Poll). With the win, the Blue Jays go to 2-2 on the season and the Nittany Lions fall to 1-3. Connor DeSimone was the spark plug offensively, finishing with four goals and an assist. Face-off specialist Narewski won 12-of-21 draws and picked up five groundballs, but he was particularly impactful in the third quarter. After starting 0-5, Narewski won 11-straight draws from the 3:59 mark of the first quarter through the 2:33 mark of the third, during which the Blue Jay defense held Penn State without a shot.

Men s lacrosse goes down against Maryland

COURTESY OF HOPKINSSPORTS.COM After a close first half, the Jays fell victim to an 8-0 Maryland scoring run. The men’s lacrosse team took on the University of Maryland Terrapins on March 6. The game started off fairly even, and then the Terrapins broke loose in the third quarter, scoring nine unanswered goals through early into the fourth quarter.  The game started out with a 3-1 Hopkins lead, which came from two goals from junior attackman Joey Epstein and another from graduate student midfielder Cole Williams. Maryland then came back, rallying off three straight to take a one goal lead. Then, with two seconds left on the clock in the first, Epstein found senior long stick midfielder Conner Delaney on the crease. This ended the quarter all even at four apiece.
