Maryland Rolls On, Johns Hopkins Upsets Rutgers

Published on (Photo Courtesy of Maryland Athletics) The Maryland Terrapins continued to do what they have all season long: win. In Thursday night’s Big Ten semifinal contest, the Terrapins took down the Michigan Wolverines 16-8. Michigan got the scoring started with two early scores from Josh Zawada and Tyler Papa, but once Maryland hot going they wouldn’t slow down. The Terrapins scored six straight from the 7:33 mark in the first through the 10:51 mark in the second to push ahead 6-2. Maryland enjoyed another big run in the second half, scoring five straight in the third quarter to take a 14-6 lead into the fourth quarter and essentially seal the deal.

Big Ten Semis: Johns Hopkins Upends Rutgers, Keeps Winning One-Game Seasons

(Photo: JHUMensLacrosse Twitter) A big day at the face-off X, some clutch goalie play in the fourth quarter, and four Johnathan Peshko goals helped Johns Hopkins to a Big Ten Semifinal upset over Rutgers on Thursday.  Peshko led the way offensively for the sixth-seeded Blue Jays’ 12-10 win over the Scarlet Knights, while Matt Narewski went 18-of-23 facing off and five of Tim Marcille’s 12 saves were made in the final frame as Hopkins took another step closer to stealing an unlikely berth in the NCAA Tournament.  “The guys are fired up at the chance to play again. We’re playing one-game seasons and moving on to our third one,” Hopkins coach Peter Milliman said postgame. “I think the guys are really excited after playing well the last few weeks. It’s taken a while to get here, but they played with great energy, played hard and I really enjoyed it.”
