A Bondurant man will spend up to four years in prison after being convicted of possessing child pornography and sexually abusing a 10-year-old girl.
Kenneth Adams, 53, pleaded guilty in May to four counts of possessing child pornography. He entered an Alford plea, maintaining innocence but acknowledging substantial evidence of guilt, to two counts of assault causing injury with sexual motivation. He was originally charged in October 2019.
At his sentencing Friday, his attorney requested Adams receive 10 years of probation, in line with a presentence report s recommendation, and noted his client was considered to be a low risk to reoffend.
Adams, speaking on his own behalf, made a personal plea to Judge David Porter for probation, saying he wanted to focus on his business and time with his family and not causing harm to anyone. He said he could not express the disgust I have with myself for contributing to the harm caused by pornography, and apologized to pornography victims

Changes at Chatham Area Transit continued this week as the vice chair of the board, Clinton Edminster, was voted out during the board s monthly meeting. Edminster had served as vice chair for about nine months. He remains on the board as a member.
Chatham County Commissioner Helen Stone, who was nominated by Michael O Halloran, was selected to replace Edminster by a 6-3 vote.
Edminster has been an outspoken critic of the CAT board s handling of former CEO and executive director Bacarra Mauldin s termination earlier this year. He was one of three board members to vote against the firing and has called for her reinstatement.

Nine new college presidents – including two Asian Americans, three African Americans and three women – were appointed in the past year. Early on in the COVID-19 pandemic, CUNY established the Chancellor’s Emergency Relief Fund with $1 million each from the Carroll and Milton Petrie Foundation and the James and Judith K. Dimon Foundation. This grew to more than $8 million by the fall and allowed CUNY to distribute emergency grants to more than 10,000 students.
