16 Waterbury Teens Clear Snowy Driveways for Those in Need

In the wake of Winter Storm Bailey, an uplifting story has dug itself out of the Brass City, as a number of local area teens worked alongside Waterbury s finest to help those in need. According to the Waterbury Police Department, Winter Storm Bailey, which dumped anywhere between 9 to 16 inches of snow on various cities and towns across Connecticut this week, was no match for snow removal crew affectionately referred to as the Waterbury Police Athletic League s Snow Brigade. After receiving over 100 requests from residents who were unable to dig themselves out in one way or another, the PAL Snow Brigade, which, this time around, was comprised of 16 young adults and a number of Watebury police officers, masked-up and hit the streets of the Brass City, clearing sidewalks and driveways alike in the name of doing a whole lot of good during the 2020 Holiday Season.

Snow continued to pile up in to the morning of December 17.  Residents woke to a blanket of fine, fresh snow, where it was measured up to 15 inches in some towns. Whipping winds made for a frigid start to the day but that didn t keep everyone indoors.  See photos from across the state of municipal workers, businesses, and residents cleaning up and digging out, people going about their day, and some braving the elements to enjoy the first nor easter of the year with walks and sledding. Near the shops at Farmington Valley in Canton heavy DOT equipment is used to clear snow from Route 44.

Winter Storm Bailey bringing heavy snow to the state

HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) - Winter Storm Bailey continues to wind down after dumping a foot of snow on some parts of the state. Flakes started flying in Fairfield County around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Snow continued on, reaching central parts of the state by 7 p.m., which led to statewide snow cover by 8 p.m. Road conditions then deteriorated. By Thursday morning, Winter Storm Bailey dumped anywhere between 10 and 15 inches of snow across most of the state. Southeastern Connecticut saw 4 to 8 inches. Snow became heavy at times, and even came down at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour at some points.
