WEST CANAAN Progress should be measured in milestones. It took seven seasons, but Stevens High girls basketball coach Ivy Condon claimed a big one on Thursday.
Freshman Kiley Bundy scored 13 points and hit three key free throws in the fourth quarter as Stevens edged Mascoma, 41-35, in an NHIAA Division III preliminary-round tournament win at Kehoe Gymnasium. That gave Condon, the Cardinals’ seventh-year coach, her first postseason victory.
The foul-line effort proved essential for the Cards. The Royals (1-13) held Stevens without a fourth-quarter field goal, requiring a 7-for-13 effort at the charity stripe for Condon’s crew to secure victory.

SOUTH ROYALTON Sixteen points in the third quarter proved pivotal for the White River Valley girls basketball team, which took down visiting Green Mountain by a 36-31 final on Friday night.
The win is the first in a pair of games for the Wildcats this season. Despite this being the home opener in this abbreviated schedule, WRV also celebrated senior night. Senior Toni Turner helped set the pace with seven points while pulling down 15 rebounds. Fellow seniors Fiona Vaillancourt (three points) and Chelsie Trask also had key roles.
Amid all of the hustle and bustle of the recent winter storm, a slew of candidates filed the necessary paperwork for a place on the ballot in the May 1 General Elections for local municipalities and school districts.
The Cities Dayton, Ames, Hardin and Plum Grove will all have contested races, while the cities of Liberty, Cleveland, Devers, Kenefick and Daisetta will have no elections this May. There are questions regarding the election status of Dayton Lakes and North Cleveland at this time, at least from an official perspective at the Liberty County Office of Elections.
As for the local area schools, there will be elections held in Liberty ISD and Hardin ISD, while there will not be any elections in Dayton ISD, Cleveland ISD, Hull-Daisetta ISD or Devers ISD. Voters in Tarkington ISD and West Hardin CISD both hold elections every other November in even-numbered years.
