12 schools, organizations receive nearly $340,000 to feed kids amidst COVID-19
Locally, No Kid Hungry selected RSU 54/MSAD 54, serving the communities of Canaan, Cornville, Mercer, Norridgewock, Skowhegan and Smithfield.

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, many families in the community face increased hardship. Hunger and poverty, already at unacceptable levels, are affecting children at an alarming rate, and the hunger that children face today has the power to impact the rest of their lives.
As part of No Kid Hungry’s continuing effort to ensure all children in Maine remain nourished and healthy, the campaign recently announced nearly $340,000 in grants to 12 school districts and community organizations to support their efforts to feed kids. No Kid Hungry worked in close partnership with their lead Maine partner, Full Plates Full Potential, to invest in districts and community organizations with critical needs, according to a news release from Washington, D.C.-
Officials at Massena Central School District want to make sure every eligible student possible is taking advantage of food-assistance programs it offers.
Massena Central developed a survey for district families to answer. This will broaden the information it has on how many students make use of the government food programs it has and what would is required to enhance childrenâs participation in them. The deadline to fill out the survey is Sunday.
The district wants to increase the number of students using its food-assistance programs by 25% come November and continue this into the next academic year. The services listed in the districtâs proposal to benefit from the Share Our Strength funding are School Breakfast, National School Lunch Program (U.S. Department of Agriculture), NSLP Summer Meals (Seamless Summer Option) and Weekend Backpack Program.
