Seminoles Topple Louisiana

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – Florida State Volleyball capped its weekend of dominance by taking down Louisiana, 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-14), on Saturday at Tully Gym. FSU is now 5-0 in the spring season. “I feel really good about the way we played this weekend,” FSU head coach Chris Poole said. “We are still improving and getting better every week. We were able to play everyone over the weekend and that gave all of our players a great experience. Really proud of the way the players stepped up and handled any adversity by focusing on the next play.” Junior middle blocker Marissa Stockman surely was focused on Saturday, totaling a career-high eight blocks in the sweep over the Ragin Cajuns (17-8). In three sets, the Seminoles (6-3, 3-3) piled up 13 team blocks compared to five by Louisiana.

Sherrill Breaks Record As Seminoles Finish Undefeated Weekend At Unconquered Invitational

Game 1 – Florida State 4, FGCU 1 Sydney Sherrill made history with her fifth-inning double, breaking the program’s career record with the 52nd of her career. The shot off the right field wall, which also moved her into sole possession of fifth on the ACC’s all-time career list, brought home two runs and gave FSU a 4-0 lead. Kathryn Sandercock earned the win in the circle, tossing the final 4.0 innings and allowing only two hits and one run with three strikeouts. Starting pitcher Danielle Watson recorded six strikeouts and allowed no runs in three-plus innings of work. The Seminoles got on the board early when Kaley Mudge’s sacrifice fly to center scored Kiersten Landers from third for a 1-0 FSU lead. Another sacrifice fly in the fifth, this time from Kalei Harding scoring Elizabeth Mason from third, extended the lead to 2-0.

Softball Defeats Florida Gulf Coast, 7-0, on Day One of the Unconquered Invitational

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. The No. 15 Florida State softball team (8-3) defeated Florida Gulf Coast (4-6) on day one of the Unconquered Invitational, 7-0. Florida Gulf Coast 7, Florida State 0 Kathryn Sandercock started and pitched 4 innings for the Noles in the circle as she allowed 2 hits and no runs with five strikeouts. She improved her record this season to 3-1. Sandercock retired eight in a row from the second inning through the third inning. Caylan Arnold entered the game in relief in the top of the fifth inning. She pitched two innings and allowed no hits with one strikeout. Emma Wilson finished the game for Florida State pitching the final inning, not allowing a single batter on base. Florida State got things started in the first at-bat of the game as Elizabeth Mason hit a solo home run to left field, giving FSU an early 1-0 lead. ⚾: Pitt Wins Pitching Duel, 1-0

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Pittsburgh beat No. 24 Florida State 1-0 Friday night in a classic pitchers’ duel at Dick Howser Stadium. Parker Messick struck out a career-high nine batters, but FSU hitters could not find the timely hit throughout the night as Pitt improved to 4-1 on the season. FSU fell to 2-2 on the year. It was the ACC opener for both teams. Messick (0-2) struck out nine batters in five innings, but two doubles to Ron Washington and Bryce Hulett in the fourth inning provided all the scoring that Pitt would need. The Florida State bullpen was stellar as well Friday, combining to allow just four baserunners (two hits, two walks) in four innings.

Yanchev, 500 Free, Highlight Noles on Day 2 of ACCs

Results  GREENSBORO, N.C.  –  Freshman Yordan Yanchev highlighted the second day of the 2021 ACC Championships for the No. 15 Florida State swimming and diving team by finishing in fifth place in the 500 free with a time of 4:16.66. Yanchev ran away with the heat one victory in prelims, clocking (NCAA B) 4:15.02, which was the second fastest time in school history behind Kyle Young’s school record of 4:14.60 set in 2009. His performance was also under the previous NCAA invited time. The Bulgarian went into finals seeded fourth, becoming the first ‘A’ finalist in the race since 2013. At night, Yanchev paced with the leaders early, but found himself in a three-way battle for fourth place toward the end of the race.  Yanchev held on to finish fifth, slightly off his morning swim of 4:16.66. The Seminoles also added another NCAA automatic qualifying time in the 200 free relay of 1:16.82 behind junior Jakub Ksiazek, sophomore Peter Varjasi, freshman Mason Herbet and junior Max M
