LEWES, Del. Residents of Marsh Farms Estates and surrounding neighborhoods are protesting a crosswalk on Camp Arrowhead Road, in the Angola area of Lewes.
The Delaware Department of Transportation announced Friday, May 21, it would install a flashing light to alert motorists of the crosswalk. The next day, about 20 people protested at the site, an S-curve partially surrounded by trees.
“Putting a crosswalk on a curve, you can’t make a worse mistake,” said Marsh Farm Estates resident Dave Breen.
But DelDOT Planning Director Marc Cote said people will cross the road in the area with or without a crosswalk.

A proposed dock for kayaks, canoes and other non-motorized watercraft at the Grande at Canal Pointe just outside Rehoboth Beach has residents who live along the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal taking sides.
CP Townhomes LLC (Canal Pointe RPC) has filed to amend condition 15 included in the approval of change of zone 1538 dating back to 2004.
The applicant is requesting the condition be removed that states: “No piers, docks, boat ramps or other water-related recreational facilities shall be permitted.”
During the hearing, concerns about eagles, precedents and the environment surfaced.
Canal Pointe, located along Hebron Road in West Rehoboth, includes 288 single-family homes, and 307 condominiums and townhomes on a 181-acre parcel bordering the canal.

I watched the candidates for Lewes City Council on Zoom and read each candidate’s resume and comments. I was disappointed in Robert Morgan’s and Kalil Saliba’s comments on building on flood plains. Most municipalities in other states do not allow building on flood plains for very good reasons. Both Morgan and Saliba commented that they would allow building on flood plains with stipulations.
Carolyn Jones stated unequivocally that she did not believe in permitting building on flood plains, a position I believe is absolutely the correct one. Jones supports the very professional Lewes Police Department and has definite ideas on managing the city, while Morgan and Saliba hedge their bets on the police as well as on other important issues with noncommittal generalities.
