Report: Montgomery County ranked fifth in Tennessee for growth, 75th nationwide

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Montgomery County was recently ranked the fifth-fastest-growing county in Tennessee by Stacker. The report used U.S. Census Bureau data to rank the top 30 Tennessee counties by population growth from 2010-19, based on five-year estimates. Montgomery County ranked fifth, ahead of Hamilton and behind Knox. “Honestly, I can’t believe we weren’t ranked No. 1,” said County Mayor Jim Durrett. “We’re the best county to live in in the state of Tennessee, and we’ll probably get to No. 1 before it’s over.” According to Stacker’s analysis, Montgomery County grew in population by 36,577 people during that period, a 22.4% increase.

Montgomery County awaits stimulus funds before approving projects

Montgomery County budget approvals for a new north Clarksville public library branch and improvements to Stokes Field headline a list of projects on hold, pending word on an anticipated $40.5 million in federal stimulus funding. In all, the county has identified 16 capital projects this springtime budget preparation season that could be funded with federal stimulus money  at least in part  rather than with county taxpayer dollars. But the unknownsin play with stimulus payout have placed projects on hold. What we think we know today is the amount that we will receive, said County Mayor Jim Durrett.  It will be in two payments and there is a deadline on when the money must be spent.
