HORNELL After averting a tragedy Sunday, the Hornell Police Department is sharing ways for community members who may be considering self-harm to reach out for help.
According to police, Hornell officers responded at approximately 5:45 p.m., Sunday to a Taylor Street residence for a report of a despondent person with a gun to his head.
“Officers were able to establish a dialogue with this man who eventually decided to put the gun down,” Hornell police said in a press release. “Officers transported the man to St. James Hospital for a mental health evaluation. The situation lasted approximately 15 minutes and nobody was injured.”
