3rd May 2021 €6.8m has been provided for the Dinish Island pier extension at Castletownbere in West Cork. The Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Charlie McConalogue TD, announced this morning details of a €38.3m Capital Investment Package for the ongoing development of Ireland’s publicly owned harbour network including 79 Local Authority Harbours across 12 coastal Local Authorities. See funding allocations below In announcing the 2021 programme, the Minister said, “I am delighted to announce this €38.3 million capital investment package in our six Fishery Harbour Centres and 79 Local Authority owned piers and harbours around our coast which underlines the importance this Government places on the contribution of the wider Seafood sector to Ireland’s economy and to rural coastal communities in particular.”

DSPCA seize over 140 animals kept in cages from Dublin petting farm

DSPCA inspectors rescued the animals after the Gardaí raised a number of concerns for the animals welfare. According to the statement, over 140 animals were locked in cages, hutches pens and sheds throughout the day and night. The statement read: It was immediately clear that all the animals were in need of veterinary care and needed to be removed from the location as a matter of urgency. The animals were surrendered to the DSPCA and a large operation took place to remove over 140 animals to the DSPCA over a 2 day period. 31 dogs, 46 rabbits, 9 guinea pigs, 6 geese, 37 chickens, 9 pigeons, 6 goats, 2 ponies and their foals and a heavily pregnant donkey were all checked by the DSPCA veterinary team.

Man charged with murders of woman and two children in Dublin sent forward for trial

Share this article A man charged with the murders of a woman and two children at their south County Dublin home has been sent forward for trial to the Central Criminal Court. An investigation was launched following a post-mortem into the three deaths in October. Neither they nor the defendant can be identified for legal reasons. The case has now progressed to the next stage before new laws allowing murdered children to be named come into effect.
