Commissioners hear assessment concerns raised by property owner

The Daily Jeffersonian Guernsey County commissioners met with representatives from other county agencies to discuss assessment concerns raised by the owner of property on Clay Pike Road. The assessments were levied in 2006 in connection with a waterline construction project completed by the county. The property owner does not believe she should have to pay the assessments because some of the property was sold, said Commissioner Jack Marlin. But, the property owner is required to pay the assessment connected with their parcel. According to county officials, the initial 20-year assessment in question was divided into seven assessments when the property was transferred from the previous owner to his son and daughter-in-law.

The commission was asked to conduct a preliminary plan review for Pleasant Valley Subdivision by Penrock LLC, which recently acquired the property. According to documents provided by the Guernsey County Map Department, 13 homes are planned for the 24-acre subdivision northwest of the city. The proposal (for Pleasant Valley Subdivision) was submitted a few years ago and the new owners have requested to continue the process, said Shannon Leek of the map department.

The county will lease the body cameras while Axon provides maintenance services and video storage at a cost of approximately $10,000 a year. This will help ensure the county against liability by clearly documenting every encounter between the jail staff and an inmate at the county jail, said Commissioner Dave Wilson. Axon currently provides cameras and video storage for road deputies in the county.

Commissioners receive funding request from VCB for COVID-19 recovery

The Daily Jeffersonian County commissioners this week received a $100,000 funding request from the Cambridge-Guernsey County Visitors & Convention Bureau as part of a COVID-19 Recovery Marketing Campaign proposal. The request was taken under advisement by commissioners for further review. It was a good discussion, but no action was taken at this time, said Commissioner Dave Wilson of the meeting with VCB Executive Director Debbie Robinson, VCB Board President Heath Dawson and past board President Suellen Johnson. The budget proposal includes $30,000 apiece for a digital campaign and website, $15,000 for niche publications, $14,000 for video production, $6,000 for outdoor boards (events) and $5,000 for the John Glenn Centennial Celebration.
