New Delhi, May 19 : A plea has been moved in the Supreme Court urging it to issue directions to the Union government to impose President s rule in West Bengal.
In his plea, advocate Ghanshyam Upadhyay pleaded for setting up a Special Investigation Team to probe killings of the BJP supporters after May 2. The Petitioner also prays for direction to the Respondent No.4 to invoke Article 355 of the Constitution of India for the State of West Bengal and advise the President to issue a Proclamation under Article 356(1) of the Constitution of India for the State of West Bengal , said the plea, seeking imposition of President rule in West Bengal.

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Thursday declined to entertain petitions by the Maharashtra government and former State Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, challenging the Bombay High Court order directing a preliminary enquiry by the CBI into corruption allegations levelled by former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh.
A bench comprising Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Hemant Gupta said: We are of the view that the nature of allegations, the personas involved and the seriousness of the allegations do require an independent agency to enquire into the matter. It is a matter of public confidence given the factual scenario.

MUMBAI: Former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh appeared before the NIA here on Wednesday to record his statement in connection with the case of an explosives-laden SUV found near industrialist Mukesh Ambani s residence, an official said.
Singh reached the National Investigation Agency s (NIA) office in south Mumbai in a car around 9.30 am, he said.
