By Yekini Alli Last week, in a strategic and visionary move, the governments of Lagos and Ogun states signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on joint development of infrastructure in borderline communities between the states. At a ceremony in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, Governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Dapo Abiodun inaugurated the Lagos-Ogun Joint Development Commission (LOJDC). Speaking on the occasion, Sanwo-Olu harped on the megacity status of Lagos and the need for developmental synergy with the neigbouring Ogun. Proposition A, which included a $156.8 million dollar facility improvement bond, was voted down with about a 900 vote difference and a voter turnout of 14.6 percent out of a total of 49,286 registered voters. Victoria I.S.D. board president Mike Mercer says he’s staying optimistic even though the much-needed bond did not pass.  “I know that this community hasn’t finished talking about this, I know this will continue on and I also know in the end, we are going to do the right thing,” Mercer said. “We are going to make the investment that we need to make, and we are going to provide the education in this community that I know our community both desires and deserves.”

Lingle came out ahead with 51.72 percent of votes, a difference of 66 votes, from the 926 ballots that were cast for Zuck. Lingle celebrated with Estella De Los Santos, who also won her race Saturday night, and other members of the Building Our Future Together bond campaign. “We are excited Team Lingle pulled this off,” Lingle said. “I want to thank my supporters out there. There was tons of support and it was amazing and I could feel it.”

We uncovered Amosun govt s N50 billion hidden debt

ADVERTISEMENT The Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, has announced the discovery of N50 billion domestic debt left behind by the administration of Ibikunle Amosun. He said the financial liability was not accounted for in the financial report handed over to him in May 2019. Mr Abiodun’s statement was a reaction to the report by the Debt Management Office which stated that the Ogun government incurred N58 billion domestic debt within the period of Mr Abiodun’s administration. According to the DMO report published March 15, it shows that from June 30, 2019, to December 30, 2020, the Ogun State Government had incurred a total of N58,316,493,347 local debts.
