Victoria I.S.D. school board president remains optimistic despite election results

Crossroads Today May 3, 2021 12:27 AM Carolina Astrain Updated: The Victoria I.S.D. Proposition A, which included a $156.8 million dollar facility improvement bond, was voted down with about a 900 vote difference and a voter turnout of 14.6 percent out of a total of 49,286 registered voters. Victoria I.S.D. board president Mike Mercer says he’s staying optimistic even though the much-needed bond did not pass.  “I know that this community hasn’t finished talking about this, I know this will continue on and I also know in the end, we are going to do the right thing,” Mercer said. “We are going to make the investment that we need to make, and we are going to provide the education in this community that I know our community both desires and deserves.”

Crews Continue Red Diesel Spill Clean-up Near Old Goliad Road Get our free mobile app There has been a big clean-up going on in Victoria this week as over 120,000 gallons of red diesel and water were spilled into Dry Creek on Sunday. These are some hard times for many, and there has been no shortage of accidents when you consider winter storms and all the other pressures of life during a pandemic. At least we can be thankful for the teams making a huge effort to address the spill. We owe our Victoria Emergency Management team and many Victoria County fireworks our gratitude for trying to address the mess as quickly as possible. This all happened on Sunday when the red diesel began to spill into Dry Creek over on Old Goliad Road according to Carolina Astrain who shared the story from Crossroadstoday.com.
