COVID-19 vaccines in Oklahoma: Kids 12-15 now eligible for Pfizer shot

Oklahoman The Oklahoma State Department of Health said Wednesday that administration of the vaccines for the younger age group will start as soon as possible. Beginning Thursday morning, teens and their parents will be able to schedule appointments for the Pfizer vaccine through the state s vaccine scheduling portal.  “This is great news for our state,” said Keith Reed, deputy commissioner of health. “Expanding the age range for this vaccine will help us protect more people and further slow the spread of COVID-19.” A federal advisory committee voted Wednesday afternoon to recommend the use of the Pfizer vaccine in children ages 12 to 15, and the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention adopted the committee s recommendation. The Pfizer vaccine was already approved for use in anyone 16 and older; Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines are for those 18 and older.

Updated: 8:28 PM CDT May 12, 2021 KOCO Staff The Oklahoma City-County Health Department announced it will immediately begin providing COVID-19 vaccine to children ages 12+.According to officials, following the FDA’s approval and the CDC’s guidance, the OCCHD will immediately begin allowing children age 12 to 15 years of age to receive the COVID-19 Pfizer vaccine.A parent or legal guardian must accompany the child to get vaccinated, officials said. Legal guardians must bring documentation verifying their guardianship status to the child.“With COVID-19 cases rising in children across the country, OCCHD is excited that we can now help keep these young people safe from this deadly virus, especially as kids are looking forward to summer camps and vacations to visit families,” said Dr. Patrick McGough, OCCHD’s executive director.
