The all-caps headline in Saveur Magazine this week raises the question: “Is one of America’s Best Bagels in … Lewiston, Maine?” and the story seems to answer with a firm YES.
The glowing feature on Forage Market, which starts with the New York writer’s open skepticism when a friend recommended its bagels, has been in the works for a little while, Forage owner and baker Allen Smith said Thursday.
“We think we do have world-class bagels,” he said. “It was great to have someone else say it for us in such a public space.”

Jay VFW post to hold fundraising dinner
JAY Jay Post 3335, VFW, will hold a fundraiser dinner at 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15, consisting of a third rack of ribs with sauce, coleslaw, baked beans and dessert.
Proceeds from the drive-thru dinner will go toward assisting the post meet expenses during its closure since March, due to COVID-19. Meals can be preordered by calling 207-897-2122.

Chicken pies to-go to replace annual supper
WEST PARIS The First Universalist Church of West Paris is planning a fundraiser to savor during what is typically the coldest time of the year. The church was not able to hold its annual chicken pie supper fundraiser, which has taken place the week before Thanksgiving for over 100 years. Instead, members are doing the next best thing – selling chicken pies to go.
Those interested in purchasing a chicken pie(s) can call or email the order to Marta Clements by Thursday, Jan. 7, at 207-674-2143, [email protected] Pies can be picked up from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15, at the church. The price is $18 a pie. In the event of a snowstorm, pick-up will take place on Saturday, Jan. 16, same time.
