Around 8am this morning, drivers were making their way towards Byron Bay via Ewingsdale Road, the second day of the new traffic signs operating in the area. But many were asking, why are they not on? One driver, who identified himself as only Mark, said the new signs were not making any difference to his morning commute. I thought the lights were going to be always on, like you see everywhere else, he said. According to information from Transport for NSW, queue detectors that trigger the signals to operate are located at Myocum Road, the southbound and northbound exit ramps and the Pacific Highway.

Subscriber only A seriously ill Queensland man who was charged with drug offences after a traffic stop near Byron Bay is alleged to have forked out $200,000 on cannabis in Coffs Harbour, a court has heard. Noel Ryan, 76, from the Queensland suburb of Banyo, was arrested after his vehicle was stopped on the Pacific Highway near Byron Bay early Saturday morning. Police will allege they found 36kg of cannabis head in the rear of his vehicle. When he Byron Bay Local Court via video link from Clarence Correctional Centre on Monday, defence solicitor Zoe Hunter applied for bail and told the court of Mr Ryan s extensive medical issues , including advanced renal disease.
At 2.15am on Saturday morning, police were patrolling the Pacific Highway at Ewingsdale when they stopped a vehicle for a random breath test, leading to a surprising haul.
Police said that after ‘interaction and conversations’ with the 76 year old male driver, they informed him that his vehicle would be searched for prohibited drugs.
As a result of the search, police located eight garbage bags containing 75 cryovac bags, filled with what police allege is cannabis, in the boot of the vehicle. The total weight of the prohibited drug was 36kgs.
The driver was arrested and conveyed to Byron Bay Police Station where he was charged for Supply Prohibited Drug being a Commercial Quantity. He was Bail Refused to appear before Byron Bay Local Court on today, Monday 18 January 2021.
