A Byron Bay man convicted of cocaine supply and repeatedly breaching an AVO by calling his ex from prison has avoided more time behind bars.
Samuel Burley, 35, wore pale linens and Birkenstocks when he appeared before Byron Bay Local Court for sentencing on Tuesday.
He had earlier pleaded guilty to five counts of contravening an apprehended domestic violence order by way of making repeated phone calls to his former partner from prison in Grafton throughout September 2020.
According to court documents, he made dozens of calls from other inmates’ devices, only eight of them were answered.
He was found guilty of the deemed supply of a prohibited drug, relating to the cocaine, after a hearing.

Subscriber only A Ballina man will spend at least two years in prison for supplying ice across the Northern Rivers. Peter Maurice Cooper, 48, was arrested in March last year following a police investigation into the supply of methylamphetamine in the Ballina area. He had since pleaded guilty to supplying a prohibited drug on more than three occasions in the Ballina and Goonellabah areas. Cooper, between February 26 and March 25, 2020, supplied the probated drug on 19 separate occasions, ranging from 0.35g to 3.5g at a time, according to court documents. A man will face court today after stolen property and drugs were located during a search warrant at a Ballina home yesterday.

Subscriber only A SYDNEY man has pleaded guilty to driving a vehicle carrying more than 10kg of ice through the Tweed. Angga Malik, 34, entered a guilty plea to supplying a prohibited drug when he was arraigned in Sydney Downing Centre District Court on Monday. The court heard a backup charge of possessing a prohibited drug was included on the arraignment, while a second charge of supplying a large commercial quantity prohibited drug was not included on the indictment. Malik had been stopped by police on September 15, 2019, near Tweed Valley Way, Chinderah. Police searched the car and found a black sports bag with 10 bags inside allegedly containing 10.167kg of ice, according to court documents.

Subscriber only A Casino woman guilty of drug and weapons offences has had her sentencing date set for June. Stacey Lee Hogan, 36, was arrested in August 2019 after police spent seven months investigating the supply of ice and firearms in Casino, Lismore, Tabulam, Drake and Irvington. Last year, she pleaded guilty to supplying a commercial quantity of methylamphetamine on an ongoing basis and possessing and supplying unregistered pistols. Stacey Lee Hogan was arrested in 2019 after a seven month investigation into a drug syndicate in the Casino and Lismore area Her matter was briefly mentioned in Coffs Harbour District Court on Monday, where material was presented to the court ahead of her sentencing.

Subscriber only A Northern Rivers man who police are looking for after he breached his bail conditions has been ordered to absolutely must attend his next court appearance. Sean Blazley, 31, is charged with supplying a prohibited drug, participating in a criminal group contributing to criminal activity, possessing a prohibited drug and two counts of possessing a prescribed restricted substance. He was due to appear at Lismore Local Court on Monday but his solicitor, Vince Boss, said he hadn t been able to contact his client. Mr Boss said Mr Blazley had been on the list of people currently in custody but after speaking with the court officer he discovered that wasn t the case.
