At 2.15am on Saturday morning, police were patrolling the Pacific Highway at Ewingsdale when they stopped a vehicle for a random breath test, leading to a surprising haul. Police said that after ‘interaction and conversations’ with the 76 year old male driver, they informed him that his vehicle would be searched for prohibited drugs. As a result of the search, police located eight garbage bags containing 75 cryovac bags, filled with what police allege is cannabis, in the boot of the vehicle. The total weight of the prohibited drug was 36kgs. The driver was arrested and conveyed to Byron Bay Police Station where he was charged for Supply Prohibited Drug being a Commercial Quantity. He was Bail Refused to appear before Byron Bay Local Court on today, Monday 18 January 2021.
