The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls soccer teams are back on the pitch Tuesday when they welcome West Liberty to Wellman.
The Mid-Prairie boys come into the match with an 8-2 overall record after an 8-0 win over Highland on Monday behind five goals from Jack Pennington. The Hawks are ranked No. 5 in class 1A in the latest poll from the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association. On the year, the Golden Hawks are led by Pennington and Owen Trimpe, each with 13 goals. Ethan Trimpe holds the team lead with eight assists.
West Liberty stands at 9-3 on the season. They were beaten by Clinton last week 3-1 in their last match. The Comets are ranked No. 4 in the latest poll from the IHSSCA. On the year they are led by Jahsiah Galvan’s 24 goals and 11 assists. The Comets have won the last 12 matches in the series including a 3-0 victory in 2019.
The Mid-Prairie soccer teams are on the road Thursday when they travel to Williamsburg to meet the Raiders in a non-conference doubleheader. The Mid-Prairie boys come in at 7-1 for the year after suffering their first setback of the season, falling to No. 3 Iowa City Regina 6-2 in Wellman on Tuesday. Mid-Prairie got goals in the contest from Owen Trimpe and Gunnar Gingerich. The Hawks are ranked No. 5 in this week’s class 1A poll from the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association. For the year, Mid-Prairie is led by Owen Trimpe with 13 goals. Ethan Trimpe has a team best seven assists. In goal, Keaton Graber has made 15 saves for a 60% save percentage.
A tied match at half, turned into a lopsided Mid-Prairie win in the second 40 minutes as the Golden Hawk girls soccer team beat area school Columbus in Wellman Monday 7-0. Neither team could find their footing offensively in the first half with the two teams locked in a scoreless tie as they got to intermission.
In the second half, the flood gates opened for the Hawks. They scored six of their seven goals in the first 25 minutes of the second stanza including two goals in 30 seconds. Finding the scoring column for Mid-Prairie were Esther Hughes and Julia Boller with two goals apiece and Kaitlin Martin, Evelyn Gerber and Kina Miller with one goal each. Boller added two assists and Katrina Curtiss one. The Mid-Prairie boys come into the match unbeaten on the season with a 7-0 record. They are ranked No. 7 in class 1A in the latest poll from the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association. In their last match, they gave Cascade their first loss of the season, beating the Cougars 3-0 on two goals from Jack Pennington and one from Owen Trimpe. On the year, the Golden Hawks are led by Owen Trimpe with a dozen goals. Ethan Trimpe has the team lead with seven assists, 10th most in 1A. In goal, Keaton Graber has 14 saves with a 77.8% save percentage.
