The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks and Highland Huskies will meet on the soccer pitch in Wellman Monday in a matchup of KCII area teams. The Golden Hawks are 7-2 on the season after dropping back to back matches last week to Iowa City Regina and Williamsburg. The Golden Hawks are ranked No. 5 in this week’s poll from the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association. On the season, Mid-Prairie is led by Owen Trimpe’s 13 goals. Ethan Trimpe’s eight assists are best on the team and 10th in class 1A. In goal, Keaton Graber has made 18 saves on the season with a 60% save percentage.
A tied match at half, turned into a lopsided Mid-Prairie win in the second 40 minutes as the Golden Hawk girls soccer team beat area school Columbus in Wellman Monday 7-0. Neither team could find their footing offensively in the first half with the two teams locked in a scoreless tie as they got to intermission.
In the second half, the flood gates opened for the Hawks. They scored six of their seven goals in the first 25 minutes of the second stanza including two goals in 30 seconds. Finding the scoring column for Mid-Prairie were Esther Hughes and Julia Boller with two goals apiece and Kaitlin Martin, Evelyn Gerber and Kina Miller with one goal each. Boller added two assists and Katrina Curtiss one. After the match junior Esther Hughes, who is in the top eight in class 1A in goals scored, talked about her big night and season. “Getting older and strong is important. We did miss a year of development but I think we have made progress. I have a lot of great teammates who do a good
