Taiwan confirms one new imported COVID-19 case from Philippines

Taipei, March 10 (CNA) Taiwan on Wednesday reported one new imported case of COVID-19 involving a migrant worker from the Philippines, bringing the number of cases in the country to 978, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).

The renewed trial runs will last until April 23, with passengers entitled to free rides using electronic tickets, Lu Shiow-yen (盧秀燕) said at a press conference, where she also announced that the line will begin commercial services on April 25. The only completed Taichung metro line started trial runs on Nov. 16. However, on the sixth day of testing, the system was hit by a major malfunction caused by the improper assembly of anchors for couplings that connect the carriages, leading to a suspension of services.

The fire broke out at the wooden warehouse in Yancheng District at 1:04 a.m. Tuesday. Fueled by strong winds, flames quickly engulfed the building, the bureau said. A total of 78 firefighters and 36 vehicles were dispatched to the scene on Guangrong Street after an alarm sounded for the blaze, the bureau said.
