Taipei, March 12 (CNA) Taiwan on Friday confirmed six new imported cases of COVID-19 three from the Philippines and one each from the United States, France and the United Kingdom according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).

Suspended Taichung MRT Green Line to resume trial runs March 25

Taichung, March 10 (CNA) The Green Line of Taichung s new mass rapid transit (MRT) system will resume trial runs on March 25, four months after operations were suspended due to a major malfunction during test runs in November last year, the city mayor announced Wednesday.
The renewed trial runs will last until April 23, with passengers entitled to free rides using electronic tickets, Lu Shiow-yen (盧秀燕) said at a press conference, where she also announced that the line will begin commercial services on April 25.
The only completed Taichung metro line started trial runs on Nov. 16. However, on the sixth day of testing, the system was hit by a major malfunction caused by the improper assembly of anchors for couplings that connect the carriages, leading to a suspension of services.
Fire destroys old warehouse at Pier 2 Art Center in Kaohsiung

Kaohsiung, March 9 (CNA) An old warehouse at the Pier 2 Art Center in Kaohsiung has burned down after a fire there erupted shortly after midnight, the city s Fire Bureau said Tuesday.
The fire broke out at the wooden warehouse in Yancheng District at 1:04 a.m. Tuesday. Fueled by strong winds, flames quickly engulfed the building, the bureau said.
A total of 78 firefighters and 36 vehicles were dispatched to the scene on Guangrong Street after an alarm sounded for the blaze, the bureau said.
