The three-nation POD event was convened in an effort to boost trade and economic exchanges and investment cooperation with like-minded partners, as the global economy has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic, Taiwan s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release Friday.

Two telecom firms gain conditional approval to share 5G band 03/03/2021 08:36 PM CNA file photo Taipei, March 3 (CNA) Two telecommunications companies in Taiwan obtained approval Wednesday to share a 5G spectrum, pending their presentation of proof that they could manage and maintain the arrangement, the National Communications Commission (NCC) said. Under the agreement, Asia Pacific Telecom and Far EasTone Telecommunications will share the 80 megahertz block in the popular 3.5 GHz band, marking the first such arrangement in Taiwan, the NCC said. While NCC approval has been granted for the 5G band sharing, the two companies must also gain authorization from the Fair Trade Commission, according to NCC spokesman Wong Po-tsung (翁柏宗).

CNA file photo Taipei, March 2 (CNA) Several shipments of teas from three countries, including Japan, were recently rejected at Taiwan s borders, because they were found to contain excessive levels of pesticide or herbicide residues, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said Tuesday. The chemicals detected in the teas included the herbicide Clomazone, for which Taiwan has a zero residue policy, the FDA said in a press release. FDA inspectors found Clomazone residues in a 287-kilogram shipment of chamomile tea made by the Singaporean luxury brand TWG, which was imported from Egypt, according to the release.
