BATON ROUGE - District Attorney Hillar Moore said his office is working to expunge the records of nearly 100 people who recently had drug charges dismissed against them because of corruption in the Baton Rouge Police Department s narcotics division.
This year, more than 700 drug charges were dismissed for people involved in about 100 cases. However, with the charges being dismissed they can still show up on those people s records because they have not been expunged.
Planted Drugs, Stolen Evidence, Arrested Cops, Trumped Up Charges: Hundreds of Cases Dismissed After Black Baton Rouge Narcotics Officer Reports Corruption In His Own Unit
More than 700 criminal cases have been thrown out and local prosecutors say hundreds more may be tainted after corruption was recently exposed in the Baton Rouge Police Department Narcotics Division.
An officer at the center of the scandal has been arrested twice, four high-ranking narcotics officers have been reassigned to different divisions, and the department is leading a criminal investigation into the drug unit’s possible wrongdoing.
According to WBRZ, the Baton Rouge TV station that broke news of the brewing scandal, narcotics officers planted drugs, made stops without probable cause, and targeted random Black and brown people for trumped-up charges as part of an arrest quota mandated by the division’s supervisors.

BATON ROUGE - A retired judge, who still serves in an ad-hoc capacity at times, watched a former narcotics officer s tell-all interview on WBRZ Wednesday night in disbelief and believes a full investigation needs to be conducted to see if the problems highlighted in the report were only isolated to narcotics.
Judge Luke Lavergne said he s had suspicions before about drug cases that were brought to him. Ardoin s interview on WBRZ gave him a flashback to when he was a young prosecutor reviewing probable cause sheets.
