After being sidelined by COVID-19 last year, Steamboat Springs veterans are hoping to return to their time-honored Memorial Day tradition by hosting a ceremony and recognizing three soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice for this country.

Geddes, N.Y. It was the kind of recruitment email Carrie Rewakowski typically ignores.
It was early January, and Rewakowski, a registered nurse for 23 years, was in a sad place. Covid-19 hospitalizations and deaths were mounting. She wanted to help.
She opened that email from a health care temp agency Jan. 8. Six days later, she was seated at one of 20 tables at the New York State Fairgrounds, ready to vaccinate people against Covid-19.
