Jan 01, Colombo: Labor Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva has revealed that the state and private institutions have not paid contributions to the Employees Provident Fund and owe Rs. 12 billion to the country’s largest retirement scheme.
As at January 1, 2020, 11,549 cases have been filed against public and private institutions for non-payment of EPF contributions and the total number of cases filed so far, including inactive cases, is 16,000, the Minister told state-run daily Dinamina.
The Minister said that the government is focusing on the continued default on contributions by employers and that strict laws will be enforced this year against employers who default on contributions.
