Barron discusses access and affordability strategies to support students

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. Penn State is committed to providing students with an accessible and affordable high-quality education, and the University is employing a range of creative strategies to help manage educational costs and meet students’ needs, according to Penn State President Eric Barron.
Along with discussing traditional mechanisms for lowering costs in a presentation to the Board of Trustees at its Friday (May 7) hybrid meeting, Barron highlighted non-traditional strategies from addressing housing and food insecurity to building financial literacy the University is using to help make a Penn State education more
Bridget Lasda currently serves as the Chief Customer Officer at the King Juice Company. She worked for 14 years within the Coca-Cola system after graduating from Penn State with a bachelor’s degree in special education in 2002.
With a productive career in the business world in tow, Lasda is now running for one of the three available alumni-elected positions on Penn State’s Board of Trustees. She sat down with Onward State to discuss the upcoming election and several of her goals if she’s able to join the board.
“I could not have thought of a better decision or university for myself. I absolutely loved my time here,” Lasda said. “I didn’t really know anyone…But quickly I met some friends. I just loved the bigness of it.”

The winning writers of Penn State University Libraries Short Stories’ “A Night at the Circus” spring 2021 contest have been announced. Representing five Penn State campuses, the latest writing contest encouraged students, faculty and staff across the commonwealth to submit their best circus-themed creative writing in the form of short stories or poetry.

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. The Complete Penn State (CPS) program has funds remaining to assist eligible undergraduates during the spring 2021 and summer 2021 terms. Students who are within their final two semesters leading up to the completion of their first associate’s or bachelor’s degree and who are experiencing barriers to completion are encouraged to apply.
Complete Penn State, which is administered by the Student Success Center, offers a variety of support services in addition to financial support, including re-enrollment support, aimed at helping students complete their degree requirements and achieve their academic goals. The program supports students at all Penn State campuses, including the World Campus, and domestic as well as international students.
