Newcome BUCKHANNON A Rock Cave man faces multiple charges after allegedly leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase and engaging in a stand-off with officers that lasted two hours before he set fire to the woods and was ultimately arrested. Chad C. Newcome, 40, was arrested for armed robbery, fleeing with reckless indifference, driving revoked DUI third offense and wanton endangerment, all felonies. Magistrate Mark Davis set bond at $40,000. The incident began at approximately 3 p.m. on Wednesday, when Newcome, 40, allegedly confronted the owner of a 2018 Dodge Ramp truck at the Arlington Mini Mart with a shotgun, according to a press release from the Upshur County Sheriff’s Department.

Dunlavy BUCKHANNON A Buckhannon man has been arrested after allegedly being found sleeping on a couch in a home where he was told not to return. Jerry Dunlavy, 26, was charged with burglary, a felony, and stalking, a misdemeanor, according to the criminal complaint in the Upshur County Magistrate Clerk’s office. On March 3, Lt. Marshall Powers and Deputy Seth Cutright with the Upshur County Sheriff’s Department responded to a removal of an unwanted person at a home in French Creek. After arriving on scene, Cutright located Dunlavy in the house sleeping on the couch in the living room, according to the criminal complaint.

Davis appointed to fill open Upshur County magistrate slot | News, Sports, Jobs

BUCKHANNON Retirement didn’t last long for Upshur County’s newest magistrate. Mark Davis, who recently retired as a captain from the Upshur County Sheriff’s Department, was named Wednesday to fill the vacancy left by Mike Coffman. Coffman, who was elected to his fourth term in the June 2020 Primary Election, accepted an appointment by Sheriff Virgil Miller to be the chief deputy of law enforcement in the sheriff’s department beginning Jan. 7, which created an open position. Miller became sheriff Jan. 1, 2021. Davis was one of four people who submitted letters to the 26th Judicial Circuit expressing their interest. Judge Jacob Reger and Judge Kurt Hall announced in a pres release Davis’ appointment to fill Coffman’s seat as the Division 1 Magistrate for Upshur County through the 2022 Primary Election.
