Google has long given the option to change voices on its Google Assistant and it was only a matter of time before Apple did the same. With the upcoming iOS 14.5 update, Apple will now let you change Siri’s voice to your liking. This is different from the existing option, as iOS and iPadOS users can only choose between male and female voice for a specific region now. Among the many new additions in iOS 14.5, users will be able to choose the voice tones from either male or female versions. For English Siri, you can choose from four types of voices for male and female versions. Additionally, new users setting up an iPhone will now get the option to choose between male and female Siri; no more default female voice for Siri on new iPhones and iPads. Apple could soon face a major test of how strictly it plans to enforce its forthcoming app privacy policies after it emerged that some of China s biggest tech companies are testing a solution to skirt the change.
The Financial Times reported Monday that ByteDance and Tencent were among the companies testing a China Advertising ID, known as CAID, which is being developed by the state-backed trade group the China Advertising Association. Early documentation for the solution suggests such an ID would let apps track users for advertising purposes even if those users didn t explicitly opt in.

The latest version of iOS (14.4) is now available as a stable update. Installing it causes a new kind of important hardware message to pop up should an iPhone detect that its rear camera module has been unofficially replaced. Apple has also noted that the software includes patches for potentially actionable vulnerabilities.
