The Melcher-Dallas Softball Squad got its signature win of the early season by knocking off arch rival class 1A #11 Twin Cedars 3-2 Thursday night. The Saints grabbed the lead on a single by Kynser Reed and another single by Paeytn Anderson in the first inning to make it 3-2 following the Sabers early scoring. After that, both teams were strong in the circle with the Saints BrieAnna Remster allowing just four hits striking out five and walking just one Saber batter. Kynser Reed went 2/3 at the plate with two RBI. Grace Bailey started her 4th game of the year and pitched all six innings giving up 3 earned runs, all in the first inning. Jullian French collected both the RBI’s for the Sabers in the first inning. The Saints Baseball Squad, for the second straight night, scored 11 runs and knocked off Twin Cedars 11-6. The Sabers had a fantastic day on the diamonds as the baseball team collected their second shutout of the season, defeating Murray 12-0. The 11th ranked softball team took down Murray by a final of 15-4. Both games ended after five innings.
Nathan Smith got the start on the bump for Twin Cedars and dominated the Mustang bats as he pitched 3 no-hit innings with seven strikeouts. Smith helped his own cause in the game as he went 2-3 with two RBI’s. Mason Sanders came on in relief and struck out 3 while allowing no runs in two innings of work. Kade Dunkin along with Smith led the offense with a 2-3 day at the plate.

The Twin Cedars summer sports teams won’t waste any time kicking off their 2021 season as the softball team has seven games in seven days and the Baseball squad has four games in five days.
Twin Cedars returns their top eight hitters from a year ago, with five of them posting batting averages over .400. Sabers Junior Grace Bailey is poised to lead the pitching staff again this year after a solid 2020 campaign that ended with a 16-6 record and a 1.43 ERA. Twin Cedars is hoping to avenge last year’s late season loss and Coach Zack Dunkin says they want to take the next step and make the trip to Fort Dodge and the state tournament this year.
