The community event at the town s Bignold Park has suffered the same fate as other fire festivals across Scotland in having to be scrapped in the interest of public safety. The cancellation is especially poignant as it comes in the year that saw the passing of Wick historian Iain Sutherland, who revived the bonfire tradition in the early 1970s. He died in May, aged 83.
