Explorer Richard Garriott links up with Bolton school children

YOUNG people found themselves a part of a mission to journey to the bottom of the ocean. Astronaut and explorer Richard Garriott invited pupils and teachers at Sacred Heart RC School, Westhoughton, to be part of the record-breaking mission and during the successful attempt he took artwork, poetry and photos created by the pupils. Trainee teachers in the school s teaching arm Heart Alliance Teacher Training began working with Richard back in spring last year as he prepared for his mission, and on March 1 he completed his journey to the deepest point on earth. This means Richard is now the first explorer to visit all of Earth’s four furthest extremes, having been to both the North and South Poles, orbited the Earth, and now reached the deepest point of the sea, Challenger Deep, which is almost seven miles below the surface of the Pacific at the bottom of the Marianas Trench.
