The committee will vote on authorizing the city’s Project Engineers Sheppard, Morgan & Schwaab, Inc. to prepare and advertise for bids on the work and repairs at Riverfront Park. Alton Public Work Director Bob Barnhart said the project will be done with Federal Emergency Management Agency financial assistance the city received due to the 2019 flood. The amount of $332,795.57 was deemed eligible by FEMA, with the city receiving $249,596.68 for repair specific to Riverfront Park.

The event is organized by Lee Barham, a leader in the Madison County Democratic Party. Barham said he’s neutral in the April 6 elections but wants the best candidates to win. Mayoral candidate David Goins has confirmed his participation, as have Rosetta Brown, 4th Ward Alderman candidate, and Steven Kimbrough Sr., city clerk candidate. Barham said candidates will give brief messages at a podium and take questions. “After the election, we have got to come together to get it together for whoever the mayor is going to be,” he said. “We need to rally around our city officials to be able to move forward and it’s going to take all of us.”
