DBPD Park, Walk, And Talk Program Is Underway

The Park, Walk, and Talk (PWT) program is meant to get police officers in touch with the community. In an interview  on December 3, 2020, Young  says it comes down to basic communication skills. Derbyshire Park Shooting Suspect Arrested

Dec 28, 2020 3:58 PM Daytona Beach, FL - A suspect wanted in the death of a 19-year-old who was shot in broad daylight at a public park has been arrested by police. 31-year-old Arrington Turner s arrest was confirmed via an email from the Daytona Beach Police Department, who reports that Turner was arrested on Monday (December 28th). Turner was one of two suspects that officers were looking for following a shooting that claimed the life of 19-year-old John Phillips. Police say Turner and another suspect found Phillips on a basketball court at Derbyshire Park and shot him multiple times before fleeing northbound. Phillips was later pronounced dead at Halifax Health Medical Center. While a motive for the shooting is still unclear, Daytona Beach Police Chief Jakari Young stated that witnesses said the shooting could have stemmed from an argument over a female. There was no altercation before the shooting occurred.
