When Snake River senior surface water users or Hagerman trout farms made a “water call,” worse-case scenario, it could jeopardize 5,500 junior ground water users and 1 million acres of irrigated agricultural land, not to mention the large dairies, cheese plants, potato processing plants and even cities.

There is not one campsite available across the state, according to Chelsea Chambers, public information specialist for the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation. Thousands of campsites were reserved nine months in advance using the department’s online reservation system. Chambers says places like Ponderosa State Park in McCall are already booked on all holidays and weekends through the summer.

BOISE, Idaho Idaho is known for all kinds of natural wonders mountains, canyons, waterfalls, unique rock formations. But tropical waters? One increasingly popular Southern Idaho trail follows a basalt canyon rim before taking hikers down into the canyon itself to walk along bright blue-green water reminiscent of the Caribbean Sea. The Box Canyon Springs Trail is in the Earl M. Hardy Box Canyon Springs Nature Preserve, part of Idaho’s Thousand Springs State Park. The preserve is about 115 miles east of Boise near Hagerman, Wendell and Buhl.
