Reporter this is the third confirmed case in Santa Clara County to describe this patient as an older adult woman, someone who was recently hospitalized for respiratory illness, now her doctor requested the Health Department test her for coronavirus. Results came in just last night. Whats most alarming is the source of transmission. According to the county public Health Department this is a case of community transmission. Meaning the patient has had no known exposure to the virus through travel or close contact with the known infected person. But this case does signal to us that its now time to shift how we respond to the novel coronavirus. The Pub

The cdc says while the virus can survive on hard surfaces for several days, more than likely, she contracted the virus from another person.
