DURBAN: As World Turtle Day was marked on Sunday, Love Africa highlighted the threats and issues affecting the reptiles, after a dead endangered hawksbill sea turtle, which was entangled in fishing line, washed ashore on Treasure Beach, in KwaZulu-Natal, last month.
World Turtle Day falls annually on May 23 and was established to enable people to celebrate and protect turtles, and their disappearing habitats, around the world.
The juvenile hawksbill sea turtle was discovered by Love Africa team member and photographer Casey Pratt, who said it appeared to have died from becoming entangled in fishing line around its neck.
