OCSO arrest two, accused of stealing auto parts, third person pending charges

Deputies with the Onslow County Sheriff s Office have arrested two people accused of stealing auto parts in Onslow County and surrounding areas, while a third person has charges pending.  On Feb. 17 deputies received a report of stolen catalytic converters from work vehicles on Blue Creek School Road. Investigators checked surveillance footage and observed multiple individuals taking the catalytic converters from vehicles in the parking lot.  After meeting with surrounding agencies the same day, they learned the same suspects were responsible for catalytic converter thefts in Onslow, Pender, Duplin and Sampson Counties. Investigators identified the suspects as Christian Oryan Houston of Bland School Road in Harrells, NC and Britney Thaila Guzman,of Clinton, NC, both 19-years-old. The OCSO and Pender County Sheriff s arrested the pair and charged them with felony motor vehicle parts theft, felony conspiracy and misdemeanor Injury to personal property. 

Onslow and Duplin detectives help put meth dealer behind bars

An investigation between Duplin and Onslow County detectives led to a lengthy prison sentence for a Duplin County drug dealer.  Robert Baxter, 51, was sentenced last week to 97 months (8 years) in prison for one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute, distribution of five hundred (500) grams or more of a mixture or substance containing a detectable amount of methamphetamine and possession with intent to distribute fifty (50) grams or more of a mixture or substance containing a detectable amount of methamphetamine. On Sept. 20, 2019 Duplin County Narcotics detectives served a search warrant at Baxter s home on Back Swamp Road. During the search, detectives found an ounce and half of 98% pure methamphetamine. On Oct. 16, 2019, Duplin and Onslow County detectives went to a home associated with Baxter on Dunn Road in Sneads Ferry. During that search, they found a quantity of methamphetamine and a digital scale.

Jacksonville man s invention could become part of history

As far as inventions go, the African American community has produced many items, foods and tools that remain in circulation to this day. While we continue to celebrate Black History Month, one Jacksonville man hopes to see his own invention become a part of history, while saving lives in the process.  Four years ago Ronnie Fulcher explained he had a nervous encounter with law enforcement when he was pulled over after dropping a friend off just before midnight in Jacksonville. The reason for the stop? Fulcher was told he was coming from a high crime area and could tell the officer who pulled him over was also nervous. With how dark it was on top of the explanation Fulcher said he was given, his nerves immediately shot up too.

Onslow white supremacist convicted of dealing drugs, sentenced to 16 years

A habitual felon from Onslow County will spend the next decade and a half behind bars after investigators from local, state and federal agencies showed he was guilty of selling drugs and shooting at law enforcement.  On Wednesday, Sean Victor Smith, 32, was sentenced to 198 months (16-17 years) in prison for possession with intent to distribute a quantity of methamphetamine and possessing, brandishing, and discharging a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina. The initial investigation began on Oct. 22, 2019 when the Onslow County Sheriff s Office started looking into a possible burglary on West Morton Street in Jacksonville. 

Richlands man Onslow County Sheriff s arrested sexual assault

The Daily News Deputies have put another alleged sex offender behind bars after a report came in about a Richlands man sexually abusing a child.  On Jan. 14 the Onslow County Sheriff s Office first received the report and began their investigation with their Special Victims Unit. On Feb. 3 deputies concluded their investigation after learning 24-year-old Caleb Michael Lee Sydes was allegedly sexually abusing a minor female.  Sydes and the victim are reported to have known each other as he is also accused of sending inappropriate pictures of himself to the girl.  Deputies arrested Sydes without incident. He resides on Gregory Fork Road in Richlands and is charged with two counts of felony statutory sex offense with a child 15 years or younger, felony incident liberties, felony solicit child by computer, and felony disseminating obscene material to a minor under the age of 16.
