Playskill s therapists in full PPE in new group activity sessions last month A Watford-based children s charity celebrating its 15th anniversary has received a big birthday boost after being awarded grants worth £600,000 to help more families in the future. Playskill has received a five-year grant totalling just under £500,00 from the National Lottery as well as a three-year grant for almost £100,000 from BBC Children in Need. The grants will fund the charity’s specialist skills development playgroups for pre-school children with physical difficulty or delay. The charity runs groups in Watford and Hemel Hempstead, supporting more than 50 Hertfordshire children and families each term.

A middle school student from Fairfield County took center stage at Fenway recently as she sang the National Anthem before the Red Sox game against the Detroit Tigers.
Victoria Beniston, an eighth-grader at Fairfield Woods Middle School, kicked off the game on Thursday, May 6 before a COVID-capacity crowd at the famed Boston stadium.
The teen’s rendition of the anthem buoyed the hometown team on Thursday, as the Red Sox broke out the bats and had just enough pitching to hold on for a 12-9 win over the Tigers.
There were less than 5,000 fans in attendance at Fenway to hear Beniston sing as the team has to adhere to COVID-19 guidance. Before being chosen as a solo act to sing the anthem, Beniston had to submit a video audition of herself to the Red Sox, which was then approved by the team.

A shelter-in-place order for a Fairfield County school that believed a weapon may have been brought to school has been lifted after a police search.
Students at Walter Fitzgerald Campus in Fairfield were told to shelter in place on Thursday, May 13, after school officials called the Fairfield Police Department to search the school when fears surfaced that a student may have a weapon at the school, said Andrea Clark, director of communications at Fairfield Public Schools.
The shelter in place was lifted around noon Thursday, after police searched the school, and talked with the students involved and no weapon was found, said Fairfield Police Lt. Antonio Granata.
