GARRETT â Volunteers from the Curiosity Shop in Garrett were treated to a luncheon Monday in appreciation for their efforts in supporting St. Martinâs Healthcare in 2020 and 2021.
Executive Director Tammy Stafford, RN, BSN, from St. Martinâs Healthcare, welcomed some 30 guests at the event at Timmyâs Celebration Hall in Garrett.
She shared the impact their support has made in the community in the past year to provide health care to under-insured and uninsured patients in DeKalb and Noble counties.
In 2020, $5 million in medications were provided to patients at no cost. Nearly 4,000 patient care visits were made, and more than 4,000 volunteer hours valued at $157,000 were provided, Stafford said.
GARRETT â The owners of an Auburn fashion boutique helped two area nonprofits and a retiring businessman in a single undertaking last year.
When the pandemic caused a temporary closure of All About You Boutique in Auburn and the permanent closing of their Shipshewana location a year ago, Kevin and Robin Heller were approached by a businessman who owned downtown Chicago and Shipshewana storefronts. He asked the Hellers if they might be interested in purchasing his entire inventory of ladiesâ clothing. The owner was in his late 80s and ready to retire following the death of his wife, Joyce, for whom the clothing line was named.
