India women suffer 1-2 defeat to Belarus
TASHKENT, Apr 8: The Indian women’s football team suffered a 1-2 defeat at the hands of Belarus in its second international friendly here on Thursday.
While both the sides played out an even first half, Belarus took the lead through a Shuppo Nastassia penalty in the 66th minute, before Pilipenka Hanna doubled their lead with a 78-minute strike.
India’s Sangita Basfore pulled one back deep into added time.
After a good performance against Uzbekistan, India started off with a high tempo in the first half and almost took the lead within three minutes, when Soumya Guguloth’s shot from outside the box struck the Belarus cross-bar.
Goal without mincing words.
She hates to get dribbled past in one-on-one situations but is not shy to acknowledge if a striker has troubled her. We were playing against Romania in Turkey. Their forward, who was also the captain (Florentina Olar-Spânu) was simply brilliant. It was difficult to contain her. She is the mother of a child and yet she is so fit and skilful, reminisced the player.
India is currently ranked 53rd in the world and the defender thinks that a change in approach and playing more friendlies against stronger opponents has helped the team get better. There has been a change in outlook. We are focussing on fitness and diet. These things were not done even a few years back. We have played a lot of friendly matches in these past two-three years. That counts a lot. We have won some good matches that helped in rankings. Also having Maymol (Rocky) ma am as a coach has helped us. She is a helpful and smart coach.
The Indian women s team is set to kick-off its preparations for the 2022 AFC Women s Asian Cup with three international friendlies in Alanya, Turkey, where in the first of these three matches, India square-off against Serbia on .

New Delhi, Jan 24 : With the nation observing the National Girl Child Day on Sunday, country s biggest women football stars spoke about the importance of young girls gaining more opportunities to play and how playing sport can help bring the best out of every girl child.
Indian women s national team captain Ashalata Devi shared her own experience of how she overcame opposition from her own family when she started playing football and how she doesn t want any girl to face the same situations that she did.

New Delhi, Jan 19 : The new official kits for the Indian senior men s and women s as well as junior men s and women s football teams were recently unveiled by Delhi-based sportswear brand SIX5SIX along with the All India Football Federation (AIFF).
The brand-new kit, dubbed the Panthera Tigris , will continue to feature the tiger stripes, cementing the identity of the national team s Blue Tigers . The tiger stripes have been kept in their original form and are placed on the chest to symbolise pride, courage and strength, an media release stated.
