New Delhi, Apr 9 (IANS): The Indian women s football team s campaign in Uzbekistan came to an end with a 1-2 defeat to Belarus in the second friendly match in Tashkent.
Maymol Rocky s India had earlier lost the opening tie of the two-match friendly series to a much higher-ranked Uzbekistan 0-1 in extremely cold and windy conditions on April 5.
After a barren first half when the Indian team defended doggedly, Belarus, ranked three spots below India in world rankings, took the lead through a Shuppo Nastassia s penalty, before Pilipenka Hanna doubled the lead. For the visitors, Sangita Basfore, skipper during the tour of Turkey in February this year, pulled one back in added time.

Tashkent, April 5 : The India women s football team fought till the final moments of the game before conceding an 87th-minute goal to go down to Uzbekistan in the first friendly at the AGMK Stadium in Tashkent on Monday.
While India also had a fair share of opportunities, Uzbekistan found the back of the net with a late free-kick from Maftuna Shoyimova.
With freezing conditions to contend with, the Uzbeks definitely held an edge but India goalkeeper Aditi Chauhan was up to the task, thwarting a low cross from point-blank range early.
The Indian defence, led by Sweety Devi, did well to keep the Uzbek attack in check for most of the game. At the other end, the women in blue attempted quick counters to catch the opponents off guard but were unable to find the net.
India had a big chance to take the lead after the break when Anju Tamang s cross found Soumya Guguloth whose attempt on goal from six yards out was cleared off the goalline.
In the 87th minute, Maftuna Shoyimova found the net with a sublime long-range free-kick that went through Aditi Chauhan s gloves.
Rocky s side will now take on Belarus on April 8. The match is scheduled to kick-off at 4:30 PM IST.
