Assam s Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) will witness a coalition-ruled council for the first since its formation in 2003 as NDA has secured majority with the United People s Party Liberal (UPPL) winning 12 seats and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) winning 9 seats out of 40 council seats.
The Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF) won 17 seats and one each by Congress and Gana Shakti Party (GSP) led by Kokrajhar MP Naba Kumar Sarania.

GUWAHATI: The elections to Assam’s 40-seat Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) threw up a fractured mandate.
The Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) won 17 seats, followed by United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) 12, BJP nine, Congress one and Gana Suraksha Party one.
The BJP and the UPPL did not announce any formal alliance but both have indicated of a possible post-poll pact in case of a hung Council.

Guwahati/New Delhi, Dec 13 (IANS) Assam’s ruling BJP will support its new ally UPPL to take power in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) as the results of the elections to the 40-member autonomous body threw up a fractured mandate even as the saffron party made big gains.
The Bharatiya Janata Party and the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) had fought against each other in the BTC polls despite ruling Assam together along with the Asom Gana Parishad.
Accompanied by Finance and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday announced that student leader-turned-politician Pramod Boro, President of the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), would be the new chief of BTC.
