Mumbai: Western Express Highway to have underpass for traffic-free drive to airport
Bhoomipujan to be performed on May 31 along with starting of 20km stretch trial run on Metro Lines 2A and 7
To facilitate traffic-free driving experience to travellers of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International (Terminal 2) and Domestic (Terminal 1) Airports, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has proposed vehicular underpasses and widening of the existing Juhu-Vile Parle flyover.
Once ready, the motorists can drive at 40km/hr in these underpasses reducing the existing travel time.
Since a contractor for the project has been selected, a ground breaking ceremony on May 31 along with starting the proposed 20km trial run on Metro Line 2A(Dahisar to DN Nagar) and 7 (Dahidar East to Andheri East) has been planned.
Mumbai: 20 km trial run to begin anytime soon on Metro 2A and 7
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has achieved a significant milestone in the overhead cable work of metro line 2A (Dahisar to DN Nagar) and 7 (Dahisar East to Andheri East) work. On Monday, it informed that the chief electrical inspector of the government of India (CEIG) did inspection via video call of Over Head Equipment (OHE) line of Metro line 2A successfully for the section from Dahisar to Kamraj Nagar.
Due to the prevailing pandemic situation and travel restrictions, the MMRDA shared updates to the inspection officer using digital platform so the proposed plan of metro trial run could be achieved. Now the charging OHE on this metro line 2A for the said stretch will be done on Tuesday. Thereafter, the proposed 20km trial run (Aarey to Kamraj Nagar) will begin.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) stated that during the day, 479 complaints of falling of trees and branches were received from across Mumbai. Of these, 245 complaints were received from Western suburbs, followed by 156 from the Island city and 78 from the Eastern suburbs.
The civic body also informed that its automatic weather stations recorded an average of 105.44 mm rainfall in the island city till 5 pm, while the eastern and western suburbs recorded 61.13 mm and 114.78 mm rainfall, respectively.
The Mumbai Met department recorded 189 mm rainfall at Colaba observatory while rainfall of 194 mm was recorded at Santacruz till 5.30 pm.
