A low pressure area (LPA), embedded inside the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), was spotted east of Mindanao on Tuesday afternoon, May 25.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) estimated the location of the LPA at 885 kilometers east of Mindanao or still outside the country’s area of responsibility at around 3 p.m.
Weather specialist Grace Castañeda said the LPA has a slim chance of developing into a tropical depression in the next 24 hours.
The LPA has no direct effect yet over the country but the ITCZ is expected to bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Mindanao.
