Pay hike for domestic workers in Caraga OK'd

MANILA-The National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) has affirmed the wage order granting pay hikes for domestic workers or house helps in Caraga. In a statement on Saturday, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Silvestre Bello III said the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB)-XIII added PHP500 and PHP1,000 to the salary of kasambahay in the region. With the approved Wage Order No. RXIII-DW-03, the new monthly wage rate for domestic workers is PHP4,000. Around 32,867 domestic workers in the region are expected to benefit from the minimum wage increase which will take effect after 15 days from publication in a newspaper of general circulation in the region. On the other hand, Bello said the pay hike for minimum wage earners in Caraga already took effect on June 6.
